Seed SistAs: Reconnecting People and Plants

Seed SistAs: Herbal Healthcare for the Future

We set up The Foundation Apprenticeship in Sensory Herbalism

Our in-person Foundation Apprenticeship in Sensory Herbalism is an immersive course that takes place throughout the seasons and offers an embodied, intuitive approach to herbal practice, plant communication, and Earth-based living.
We Seed SistAs had been working together for several years when we decided that we’d like to set up a course that covered the foundations of herbalism, the way that we wish we’d been taught. A way that celebrates the art and magic of herbalism as well as the science and research-based learning.

We called this the Sensory Herb Apprenticeship and, over the last 15 years, we have had around 300 people go through that programme. It's been beautiful to watch how the rhizomes have crept out from this, creating a network of amazing creative plant lovers, many who have gone on to professional training, set up workshops, incorporated the learnings into their careers, and had amazing health discoveries of their own. People really bring their all, and embrace the special flavour of herbalism we bring: political, hands-on, scientific, and magical.

We Seed SistAs transformed our Shared Passion into a Social Enterprise

More than two decades ago, we Seed SistAs crossed paths while studying a BSc in Herbal Medicine. From the start we recognised kindred spirits in one another—deeply connected to the plant world and deeply concerned about the disconnection to nature growing within society. At a time when pressure on the NHS is overwhelming, a change needed to happen.

That spark of shared purpose led to the creation of Sensory Solutions Herbal Evolution, a Community Interest Company dedicated to empowering people through herbal education, sustainable health practices, and community-centred action. Over the years, we’ve grown into a vibrant social enterprise rooted in care, connection, and creativity.
Herbal Healthcare for the Future: Community, Plants & Sustainable Practice

Herbalism Belongs to Everyone, Herbalism is The People’s Medicine

We’ve always believed that herbalism belongs to everyone. It’s far too easy to forget that the contents of a tincture bottle (or even many pharmaceutical agents) start as living plants. Our mission is to bring people back into relationship with local herbs—those growing along hedgerows, in gardens, and even between paving stones.

We work primarily with local and sustainably foraged plants, not just because they’re more environmentally friendly, but because they’re often more energetically in tune with our bodies and the environment in which we live.

Cultivating Change – The Power of Community Gardens

One of the initiatives we are most proud of is the offering of annual community garden grants, helping groups around the UK to grow their own medicine and create spaces of learning, healing, and biodiversity. These gardens:

  • Educate communities on herbal medicine
  • Deepen connection with the Earth and seasonal cycles
  • Foster autonomy, resilience, and well-being
  • Reduce herb miles and protect wild plant populations
  • Build networks of like-minded plant lovers

We believe that when people connect with plants, something shifts. Community gardens are a living example of what happens when herbalism becomes a shared, collective experience.

Accessible Herbalism for All

In line with our ethos of inclusivity, we also offer grants and part-funded places for full-time carers and people living with disabilities through our online membership community, The Coven of Herbal Secrets. This magical space invites people of all abilities to explore herbal traditions, plant lore, and intuitive practices, and much more.

Our dream is for herbal education to be widely available, no matter your background or ability. Everyone has the right to reconnect with the land and feel supported by it.

Walking the Plant Path

Our herbal clinical practice is grounded in connection to the herbs, drop dosing, fresh tinctures, and deep sensory exploration. We follow the lunar cycles, harvest with intention, and honour the unique energetics of every plant. We are guided as much by intuition and ancestral wisdom as we are by clinical understanding.

We often say, “plants are our ancestors.” We’ve evolved together. Every bitter leaf and sweet berry offers a kind of ancient dialogue—one we’re all capable of hearing if we take the time to listen.

A Wealth of Plant Wisdom—And a Conversation

Our website is home to a rich and searchable blog, filled with practical herbal guidance, plant profiles, seasonal rituals, and more.

If you're looking for something and can't find it, we’d love to hear from you. We regularly write blog posts in response to your questions and ideas—so please, reach out and ask, and we’ll grow that knowledge together.

A Herbal Future Worth Cultivating

We envision a world where community herbalism sits side-by-side with practitioner-based care. Not everyone will become a clinical herbalist—but everyone can learn how to care for themselves and their loved ones using local plants.

Join the Herbal Evolution

We know that reconnecting with plants nourishes more than just our bodies—it nourishes community, creativity, and the ecosystems we are part of. When we grow herbs, we grow relationships—with the Earth, with each other, and with ourselves.

Our dream? That every child grows up knowing the names and uses of the plants around them. That medicine is seen not as a packaged product, but as a seed, a story, and a shared act of care.

Let’s grow that future—together.
